The site fell away across the footprint, so this one started underground: a block stem wall, drainage stone along its length, and the whole thing set out with a laser before anything went up. On ground like this the foundation and the drainage decide how the building behaves in ten years, and they are the part nobody sees.

With the base right, the post-frame structure went up on the slab — full-height framing with the gable ends set for two large door openings. Then the metal went on, roof and walls.

Working on a lot this tight, with a house next door and a driveway to keep clear, is a scheduling problem as much as a building one. The site was kept passable throughout.

  • A concrete block stem wall with drainage stone along its base and a subfloor deck behind it, a laser level on a tripod and a telehandler at the edge of the excavation
  • Post-frame timber framing and roof trusses standing on a concrete slab above a block stem wall, beside a residential driveway
  • The shop clad in olive metal siding with a dark metal roof, the gable end still open and being framed for two door openings, crew working inside
